Eowyn and the Witchking by alarie-tano Eowyn and the Witchking by alarie-tano
Watercolor, 59 x 15 cm

Fullview please

My main aim was to find a good composition to fit the fighting scene in that rather uncommon format.

(Eowyn is my favorite female LOTR character)

Thank you a lot. Nice you recognized the colors. I wanted the whole picture to "fight" and the complementary contrast of blue and beige does that pretty well i think :)

Very nice! I like the way you put this one together, you can really see a shift as you go from left to right as things get darker!

The swirl and tension is fabulous, like she cannot stop or she'll die. ANd she has no choice, but is filled with that rage to keep going. Awesome.

A Tolkien wc!!! Excellent! It's almost as if you answered my cries! Hahaha. The idea is interesting, allthough the perspective seems odd, but not too wrong. I love the creature, and the expression on Eowyn! (and her shinny sield! :D)

Thank you very much! Yes the perspective is askew. The horizon is running from approximately where her sword meets the edge sown to where the Nazguls cloak meets the edge. It was on purpose.

Talk about a dynamic composition! The Beast itself gives it a flow, and how poor (and pure) Eowyn is entangled in those black rings of evil body creates an amazing tension. Nice work on the shield and helmet designs.

Wow! I think I have to :+fav: that, too.
Amazing what you got out of that leftover paper.
How do you do that?!?!

Thank you! It actually took me some time till I got the idea to use the leftover paper for this subject and much more time to find the right way to put the "dragon" and the Nazgul in.
The only things I was completely sure about from the beginning were the colors (beige and blue for the background, white for Eowyn and black for the evil side of the force) and Eowyn. For Eowyn I already had a older sketch at hand and I was sure from the beginning that I wanted to use it, though after reading through the passage in the book again I recognized that I had to change it a bit (remove the helmet, add the shield). I didn't do the sketches for the fell beast on separate sheets of paper, but drew it in directly, erased it again, started all over, erased it again... So the paper wasn't in the best shape when I started painting.

The sketches for Eowyn (one in color, one just pencil) are in the Scrapes folder by the way... ;)
