The first one is an osprey, which isn't an eagle. Apart from that, beautifully done.

Yeah some people pointed that out already, but psssst :D:D
No seriously, thanks for the hint. I relied on google when I was looking for a reference image. But I am glad it is detailed enough for such knowledgeable people as you can actually tell what kind of bird it is ;)

Awesome (how many times I've uttered that word about your images now? :D ) Your drawing style reminds me of John Howe's quite a bit.

Probably that is because I am heavily inspired and influenced by John. He is one of the reasons I started to paint and draw seriously :)

The first eagle is an osprey... but a very well painted one.

I was going to say how much I liked the design of the first eagle, with different markings than your average eagle, as befits the great eagles of Manwe. I didn't realise either it was a different bird! ;)

Wow! Those eagles look so HUGE! Y'know, your Tolkien artwork ranks up there with John Howe and Alan Lee's -it's amazing.

Great stuff, does this comes from a story or is it your original characters? (Just curious :))

No, it's not my character. It is based on a story by J.R.R. Tolkien. This journey on the eagles I've painted here is mentioned in "The Silmarillion" and in "The Children of Hurin".

Okay, I read Silmarillion eons ago so I don't remember the names, the other one I've never read. I'll definitely check them out!

"The Children of Hurin" is a rather new book, published last year by Christoper Tolkien.

Really fantastic. The moon is suposed to be behind the second eagle, right? Very well done! I love the deep blue, wish I could take a closer look to the painting!

Thank you! I think if you download it it's a bit bigger. For me it's not the moon, but the sun behind a layer of fog. Though I think it could be the moon as well.

Thanks.
Well thought of Gandalf and the Balrog, too, but decided against it because there is that unbelievable great painting by John Howe, that would be in my mind and in the end I'd just do a very bad copy of his great image.

I would suggest trying it from a different angle to Lord Howe, but I think that would end up being impossible.... he's done it so many times! :P

Yeah, but even if I tried it from a different angle I would always have his look for the Balrog in my mind.
